Levent Tuncer

b. Edirne, Turkey.

Levent Tuncer showcases the duality in every culture, incorporating imagery from art, architecture, textile and tiling, and the unceasing change it undergoes. His work is often described as being intuitive and psychological – creating from what he calls a “Proustian space”, describing the state between sleep and wakefulness where memories are vivid and fluid.

Tuncer moved to London in 1971, to study at the St. Martins School of Art. He went on to graduate from the Hornsey School of Art with a B.A. with honours. The University of Hartford, Connecticut awarded him a full scholarship, allowing him to teach there and earn his Master’s in Fine Arts degree from there in 1981.

Currently, he works from his studios in Brooklyn, New York and Tampa, Florida.
