Tatla Gallery's collection of vintage Bollywood Cinema Paintings forms a rare and comprehensive retrospective, featuring Bollywood icons and award-winning films spanning over 25 years of the film industry's history. The series embodies the quirky and colorful style of India's cinema culture-a growing fascination in the West and a deep cultural tradition in the East.

The pieces that comprise the Bollywood Cinema Paintings collection were each originally commissioned for the release of a Bollywood movie and exhibited at the cinema featuring the film. In each case, local artisans used a combination of photo collage and hand painting to create dynamic and colorful interpretations of scenes from the given film. The collection includes many series of paintings that capture various scenes from a single movie, which were originally displayed together at a theatre throughout the movies' run. While some of the paintings are in great condition, others show the character of having been posted in the streets of Mumbai for the months-and in some cases years-that the movies where shown there.
